Getting Involved in #LangChat on Twitter
Here at Calico Spanish and Kids Immersion, we are increasingly interested in facilitating teacher collaboration. To that end, we are co-moderating a Twitter chat focused on topics related to world language learning.
How does a Twitter Chat work?
Each week the chat moderators will post a poll with the possible topics for discussion. We tweet the link to the poll so you can vote for your topic of choice. Generally, the topic is decided about 24 hours before the scheduled chat. We’ll tweet the topic in advance so you can be thinking of resources, links, questions, and ideas you might want to share. The chat will be hosted from 8-9 pm ET every Thursday night. During that time, you can view our twitter stream here on our website or with your favorite Twitter Service (Tweetdeck, Twubs, etc.). Any posts you want to make in response to the topic need to include the hashtag #LangChat.
How can I get involved?
First, join twitter.
Second, choose a few folks you’d like to follow. For starters, you can follow the language chat moderators:
@CalicoTeach – Erica Fischer
@DiegoOjeda66 – Diego Ojeda
@SECottrell – Sara-Elizabeth Cottrell
@placido – Kristy Placido
@dr_dmd – Don Doehla
@msfrenchteach – Cristy Vogel
@CoLeeSensei – Coleen Lee-Hayes
Third, use Twitter Search or another service to search for tweets with the #LangChat hashtag. When you want to share resources for language educators, include the #LangChat hashtag in your tweet and other language teaching enthusiasts will benefit from your ideas. Popular services to use to monitor the chat stream include TweetDeck, HootSuite, and TwitChat.
Fourth, plan to join the chat by searching for tweets during our scheduled chat times. Introduce yourself with a tweet, ask questions, share your thoughts and enjoy the fast pace of our LangChat. Make sure you include the #LangChat hashtag so your colleagues will see your tweets.
We look forward to your participation!
